Housing information

Housing information

There are several options for housing in the UK. It depends partly on what you are looking for, and partly of what is available in the local area where you are placed.

  1. Live-in housing: this type of housing is only available in quieter areas where it is difficult to find other housing

  2. Shared accommodation: this is our most common type of housing. It offers a bunch of benefits for you as you are able to make instant friends and it is affordable.

  3. Independent apartments: it is rare that you are able to get an independent apartment as housing in the UK is relatively expensive. In some cases, we might be able to arrange this for you.

UK Arrival Information

What else do we assist you with when arriving to the UK?

Most things you need are taken care of by us, such as assistance with opening a bank account, and help with applying for your National Insurance Number. There are however some things we advise you to do immediately upon arrival:

  • Registering with your local GP (doctor): with the payment you have made for the Health Surcharge you have access to the UK medical system. When arriving to a new country with a different climate you might get ill (it gets cold here compared to India) so it's good to have a GP you can go to.

  • Find your community: the UK has a huge Indian diaspora (almost 2 million people) so making friends should be easy for you! Make sure you join in celebrations such as Holi and Diwali. These are largely celebrated throughout the UK. And are you a little homesick? No worries, there are Indian restaurants all over the UK so you can have that taste of home.

  • Collect your BRP (Biometric Residence Permit): it will state in your visa decision letter whether you have to collect this. Please note the UK government is phasing out the BRP as they move to an electronic BRP document.
